Do I need to reserve a unit in advance?

Reservation is not required but is strongly advisable. Reserve your unit by paying a deposit – this guarantees the space is held for you and prevents someone else from taking it before you move in.

Can I move in on the same day?

Yes. Our staff will assist you with move-in and you will have access to your unit the same day. Please bring your South African ID document or passport when you arrive.

What unit sizes are available?

Units range from a compact half unit (great for boxes and small furniture) up to a double unit the size of two parking bays. How do I choose the right unit size?

Our staff are trained to help you select the right size. A useful rule: if you need regular access to your items, choose a slightly larger unit so you can move around inside. If you are packing and won't need access until move-out, a smaller unit may suit. When in doubt, call us and we will talk you through it.

Can I move to a different unit size later?

Yes – you can transfer to a different size unit at any time, as many times as you need. There are no penalties for changing size.

How tall are the units?

Most of our units are three (3) metres high, which allows for vertical stacking. Please confirm the height with staff at your specific facility before choosing a unit, as dimensions can vary slightly between locations.

What costs are not included in the monthly rental?

Two items are not included in the monthly rental: a one-month refundable deposit (paid upfront) and your own padlock. You bring your own padlock – we do not hold a master key, which means only you have access to your unit.

When is payment due?

Your first payment is due on or before your move-in date. After that, rent is due on the first of every month. We set up a debit order on your behalf so you do not have to worry about manual monthly payments.

Do you accept cash payments on site?

No. For the safety of our customers and staff, no cash is accepted at any of our facilities. All payments are made electronically.

Yes, you sign a lease agreement before receiving access to your unit. Storage Genie offers flexible month-to-month leases – there are no long-term lock-in periods. We are proud to be one of the only storage providers in South Africa that allows you to rent for as little as one month.

How much notice do I need to give when moving out?
